Nyanko and the Starlights

The November issue of Gakken’s Animedia magazine features a special feature on Nyanko-sensei and Natsume’s Book of Friends.

Madara is a powerful beastly youkai that commonly takes the form of a maneki-neko, and acts as Natsume’s bodyguard on the condition that he will inherit her Book of Friends upon her death. He has the ability to shapeshift and fly, and can offer spiritual help and protection to those who ask.

Sailor Tin Nyanko

Sailor Tin Nyanko is the fourth and final of the original Animamates to appear. She has a very cold personality and will kill anyone who stands in her way. She has a cat paw gun that can fire blasts of energy that will remove a person’s star seed.

She is also able to use the Galactica Bracelets which can force transformed enemies to de-transform and revert back to their base forms. She appeared in the two Sailor Stars musicals and Eien Densetsu as the leader of the Animamates, replacing both Sailor Iron Mouse and Sailor Aluminum Seiren.

Sailor Starlights

The Starlights are the guardians of Kakyuu, a princess from a planet called Kinmoku. Their home planet was destroyed by Galaxia and they escaped to Earth, where they were searching for her.

Taiki is the most studious of the three, as well as the tallest of the Starlights. He has long (almost calf length) rattails even in his boy form.

He is very protective of his friends and he is the leader of the group. He is a strong and determined guy. He has the power to heal corrupted Phages, just like Eternal Sailor Moon teaches herself to do.

Sailor Moon

30 years ago, Sailor Moon made history. This shoujo manga (or girls’ comic) series was one of the first to introduce anime to Western audiences.

Sailor Moon tells the story of Usagi Tsukino, a high school girl who becomes a magical girl after her talking cat Luna gives her a transformation brooch. She and her friends fight the forces of evil, led by Queen Beryl.

Beryl’s past life as a earthling witch filled with unrequited love for Prince Endymion helps fuel her murderous rage in the present. Meanwhile, Usagi’s crush on her coworker Tuxedo Mask grows stronger.

Sailor Mars

Sailor Mars is a fiery priestess who represents the planet Mars and its Roman god of war. She is an INTJ and Enneagram Type 8w9. She is headstrong, independent, and has strong opinions.

In the manga, Mars was the first senshi to confront Jadeite, who threatened to turn Tokyo into a sea of fire. She fought back with her spear-like Fire Rods and fiery attacks.

Her sailor uniform resembles miko robes, and her accessories include a tiara with a red gem, six pointed stars dangling from her earrings, a plain red choker and circular red brooch, and high heeled boots.

Sailor Jupiter

As the Guardian of Love and Courage, Sailor Jupiter is a pretty tomboy who has one of the softest personalities. While she might look like a tough cookie, she’s surprisingly sweet – just ask her about her crush on Tuxedo Mask.

She was the fourth Sailor Senshi to receive her transformation pen and, with it, gained an attack called Supreme Thunder that uses lightning bolts to destroy enemies. She later learned Jupiter Coconut Cyclone and later still, she was able to use the Leaves of Oak to perform the powerful Jupiter Oak Evolution.

Sailor Venus

Sailor Venus is the most experienced Senshi and has been fighting against the Dark Kingdom for months. Her primary attack is Crescent Beam, which can blast or restrain opponents with a touch. Her other attacks include Rolling Heart Vibration and Venus Love-Me Chain, which can be used with her chain that wraps around her waist.

Her civilian name is Minako Aino. Her Japanese surname translates to Kinsei, which is the first character of her totem planet’s Japanese name.

She first appears to Tuxedo Mask after he and Zoisite escape from a shrinking energy field, breaking it with her Crescent Beam. She also masquerades as the Moon Princess to throw off the Dark Kingdom while searching for her true home.

Sailor Uranus

Sailor Uranus is a hard-headed, independent, and determined individual. She is stubborn, xenophobic, and overprotective, but also strong-willed and capable. Her biggest dream is to become a racing driver.

In her civilian form, she is a masculine tomboy who drives cars and wears boys’ uniforms to school. She and her girlfriend Sailor Neptune are the only two Outer Senshi who are lesbians.

Her attacks are based on the sky and precognition, and she carries a talisman called the Space Sword. Her signature attack is World Shaking, which she performs by slamming her fist above her head and then releasing a transparent yellow energy.
